greener pastures on the other side? maybe not ...

As mentioned before, the weekend trip to HK was definitely an "exhausting but fulfilling" experience, as I have quoted before to Rus and Merv as well. Upon looking back, the trip seems to centre mostly around eating, shopping, sight-seeing and clubbing, and yes retail therapy really do work! And as a cosmopolitan Asian city, HK definitely feels a lot like good ole Singapore, maybe busier, more hectic, more mature, more competitive and fashion-wise, definitely more flamboyant.

Flamboyance or brashness, I feel, is really a fine line away from nastiness. Of course this is in my opinion only. Which is why, it was quite difficult for me to find anything I like in the local brand. Then again, I'm not a very experimental person too. In fact, WH even chided me for being too safe in my choice of wardrobe, which basically consists of number shirts, muscle tees, casual berms and distressed low cut jeans. Even when buying shoes or accessories, the sporty look seems to be de rigeur for me. Maybe its time I break out of this cycle ...

Another thing that made me mull over for abit is how busy the typical Hong Kong-er is. On a Sunday night at about 11pm, this particular salon we passed by at Central was still packed with women dyeing and/or perming their coiffs. I can assure you that it's not because there's a happy hour for setting your hair after 10 in HK, but it's really because these people are just too damned busy in the day, even on a Sunday. Typically, young people there also take up an additional job on top of their main one. This means that after they get off work at 6, they would grab a quick meal and rush off to their second job. And we all thought, it was all glitz and glamour in the "Pearl of the Orient", where stars and starlets can be made and broken within days.

That is not all, living space is really a luxury over there, as can be evidenced by the throngs of people literally covering every inch of Mongkok on a Sunday. Property prices there are still one of the world's most exorbitant, not to mention their standards of living are considerably higher than here. A coffee in a bookshop we went to charges almost $8 for a pop of latte, and the cafe in mind here is not even remotely as sensational looking as the new TCC we have at Orchard and RP. So yeah seriously, was a bit dissapointed since I have always fantasised about moving over to HK to live and work there for a couple of years, if things get abit stifling here.

Oh and as for night life there, and I do mean the alternative kind, we really have so much more going for us here in this island. Over there, the bars and clubs are small and dinghy to the point of claustrophobia inducing, the music sucks (seriously) and we've definitely seen better crowds EVERYWHERE. Well, it was explained to us that most of the "good crowds" don't come out to party in HK but goes overseas for their clubbing fix instead. Anyhow, their only saving grace is that their alcohol are way stronger than ours. Rus and I were tipsy by our second drinks which is something that has definitely never happened before over here .. LOL.

The foods were awesome though; both quality and variety. So there you have it, 3 little piggies from Singapore, gorging ourselves silly on HK cuisine for 4 days in a row ..hmm sounds like a little rhyme ...

All in all, I had great fun and great company .. although I'm sure it would be more enjoyable had the weather been more friendly to us. Looking forward to the next one already ...

live it love it

Been awfully busy since I came back from HK with Rus and Merv...
And exhausted really.
So I'll just take the easy way out and post the photos that Rus has upladed .. heh.

Coming up next, will be a full length article on the HK trip itself.

NATION.04

wowee ...
the past NATION weekend was a mad blast!
I'm still recovering from it actually,
the pure physical exertions from lack of sleep,
alcohol-poisoning of the liver,
the rabid gyratings to the beat,
not to mention the chill of the air-con or outdoor
breeze on your sweaty torso.
I'm physically spent.
But I truly enjoyed myself so much!
All thanks to the wonderful friends that surrounds me
throughout the entire time.
Here's a toast (of iced water) to you guys ;
Eric, Tim, Rus, Murf, Evan, Chewbaka and the rest ...
It would never have been the same without you guys ....

MILITARY BALL:
Suntec Convention Hall was jam packed with boys and mens,
local and foreign,
mostly donning the theme of the night.
It was quiet a sight to behold really...
all the berets, camo tanks, army boots and bitch ..i mean butch, dog tags.
Went up to the podium for a short while with Eric and Tim
to join some Thais I met shortly before. From that vantage point,
I was like ...Wow, the whole floor was covered with teeming muscular masses,
their sweaty backs glistening under the laser shows ...
heaving and pulsating,
like one massive organism
in its relentless pursuit of hedonistic pleasures ....
Decided to leave at 4am to prepare for the big night

NATION.04
Began the huge day by tanning with the rest,
and some green tea vodkas
and my own concoction of Aloe vera juice with Absolut Vanilia,
topped with ice ..not too bad.

As the time to midnight gets progressively lesser,
so did our mixer to alcohol ratio ...
Finally we plucked our butts and headed to the Musical
Fountain, where things started just like it did last year ...slow

And then they played a remix of my "coming-out song"
Whitney's "My Love is Your Love" (it was at Stonewall,
with vagab as well) and the fireworks started exploding, in tandem
with the fountain jets and fire streams ....
And so did the crowd;
in a unison of celebration and solidarity..
We were really one for that one moment in time,
irregardless of anything ...
The party was then followed by a watery-bonding session for the
group of us ...

CLOSING
The atmosphere was notedly more laidback and chilled,
and the vibe was relaxed and coy
as if secretly pleased at the achievements over the past 3 days ..
at how far they have come together

There was however a tinge of sadness,
a sense of loss after all the passion that has been roused.
All the conflicting emotions
ups and downs
experienced over the weekend ...
Will they, could they be forgotten just like that?
They were too real, too wrenching ...
especially for the first timers ...
There is that fear of losing all that ....
Is it back to reality from tomorrow onwards?

Me? I was torn between being sad that it has ended
and also glad at the same time ...
But I do have really beautiful memories of the entire event,
and will treasure it to the end ...

Oh and tic tacs never tasted so good before ...*wink*

POST-SCRIPT:
Was reading my review of Nation.03 exactly a year ago
And I started reflecting on how far I have come in this mere
365 days, the tribulations and the achievements and sacrifices.
But that is another story, for another time ...

train

Realised that these days I hardly question where a train is heading to ..
It could be going to exactly where I wanted to be in life
Or it could be taking me back to square one or even further away
But I stopped asking questions.

As long as I enjoy the ride,
the skies are clear and baby blue,
the views are spectacular,
I guess a part of me is afraid that if I
find out it is not heading to where I wanted it to be,
my senses might just shut off.
Then what happens? Jump off the train?

Is it not a miracle that after a long wait, a train finally
passes your station and stops long enough for you
to get on board?

I am thankful enough

Destination unknown ... but I'm enjoying every single minute of it!
